Feng Shui

The basic premise of Feng Shui is that people are affected for good or ill, by their surroundings and by the design, planning and orientation of their homes and workplace. Even the topography of an area, every landmark, hill and other feature, combines to have a direct bearing on our lives by means of our being wealthier, luckier or more blessed than our peers.

The Chinese concluded that if you change your surroundings then you will change your life. Changes can be for the betterment or detriment.

It may be used to predict auspicious, and inauspicious dates, proposals, decisions, happening and events.

Feng Shui principles stem from the Tao and principles of yin and yang.

The Tao is what Chinese call the Way. The Tao holds the concept that we are at one with the Universe and from the Universe everything flows.

The Tao is regarded as that which moulds, creates, gives form and life purpose to all and everything.

Taoist philosophy believes that vital energy of some sort is the source of all life. Further all life mirrors the Universe, the concept of macrocosm (the universe) and the microcosm (life forms). In order for a life form to flourish and survive, it should become in harmony with the forces of nature. The Tao is the infinite force of nature.

For everything there are two possibilities, two poles e.g. the front and the back, the positive and the negative etc.

Balance is when the two poles are in equilibrium.

Yin and Yang represent opposite poles. They are not exclusive of one another but are mutually convertible. Thus Yin can become Yang and vice versa. This is epitomised in the famous sign of Taiji - the Great Polarity.

The Pah Kwa is probably the most important symbol of Feng Shui and used to work out best Feng Shui solutions.
